A full hospitality website for a Johannesburg coffee & kitchen concept — editorial layout, self-serve menus, event bookings and a lightweight CMS the team can run without a developer on call.
Barizsta wanted their website to carry the same considered, editorial feel as the coffee & kitchen space itself — not another off-the-shelf restaurant template. Menus needed to be easy to update, events had to be self-serve, and every page had to load fast on a phone in a hurry.
Most restaurant and café websites in South Africa are built on rigid restaurant templates — menus buried in PDFs, event pages stuck in the wrong CMS field, bookings routed through third-party widgets that break the visual language. Barizsta needed the opposite: menu and event content as the front-of-house, not the afterthought.
We built the site as a custom WordPress theme so every content type — menu, event, dish, gallery — is a first-class object the client can update inline. No page builders, no bloat, no dependencies on plugins that break on the next update.
Barizsta's team updates the menu weekly, adds events on demand, and takes bookings directly from the site — without touching a developer. The site handles peak-night traffic on a lightweight VPS and hits performance budgets that most restaurant templates can't.
One custom WordPress theme with menu, event and gallery as first-class content types — no plugins, no page builder.
Sub-2-second first-contentful-paint on mobile — even with editorial imagery on every hero.
Custom theme, no bloat. Every content type is first-class in the CMS — no page-builder dependencies.
Every technical choice is on the record — no proprietary lock-in, no page builders, no dependencies your team can't audit.
