Is your online store ready for Black Friday?

Black Friday lands on 27 November this year, and for many South African online stores it is the biggest week of the year. It is also the week when small problems get very expensive.

A store that is a little slow in October can grind to a halt under Black Friday traffic. A checkout with one extra step loses more people when they are comparing three tabs of deals. And nothing kills a campaign faster than selling stock you do not have.

Three weeks is enough time to fix the things that matter. It is not enough time for a rebuild, so focus on the basics.

Three things to sort this month

  1. Speed test your top product pages. Test them on a phone. Compress heavy images and switch off apps and plugins you no longer use.
  2. Do a full test order. Pay with a real card through PayFast, Yoco, Ozow or whichever gateway you use, and check every email that follows.
  3. Check stock and delivery cut-offs. Update stock counts, and put your courier cut-off dates on the site before customers ask.
